Procrastination & Getting Started

Procrastination & Getting Started

With coaching clients and their PROCRASTINATION trait, I use what I call a STARTEGY, not a strategy.

Give 10 minutes to get whatever it is you want to do to start. Sometimes it is the actual act of getting 'started' that is the problem, not the ability to do it that stops ADDers when they are stuck.

It is combining the 'chunking' strategy with the 'getting stuck' problem to work in their favour. Often, getting stuck is helped by a STARTEGY. Sometimes when they get on a roll, they start to hyperfocus :o)

So, the STARTEGY actually can play on the getting stuck problem to get what they want done. I take the pressure off with a time limit ... but if you feel like keeping going, just keep going. If not, put on a timer for 10 minutes, say use the mobile/cell phone alarm function, and when it goes off, do the STARTEGY again.

Just start, don't think about how much needs to be done, that only brings up the anxiety (a common problem with procrastination I believe).

Living with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) can be a pain in the rear if you do not have the knowledge to deal with the 'stuff' that goes on in your life, let alone in your head!

Being a Huntress (Female ADDer), there are other issue to content with ... such as housework. To most people this is an easy task, however for most huntresses this can be an absolute nightmare!

So after this inaugural post, the first post  will be about the 'bane of our existance' ... organising our homes to be somewhat liveable.

For ADHD Women there is little option for support. If you have the intention of going to a support group meeting, chances are you will get the date wrong, time wrong or even the meeting place wrong.

So, what is the solution to this? Quite simply ... the internet. Email groups offer Hunters & Huntresses a 24/7 solution. Usually, when numbers in a group have built up, they can have support or answers to a question in a relatively short space of time.

For between-times, this is a wonderful way of gaining support from people who are in a similar position. For many, this is the first time they have felt accepted, and the temptation to stay on-line and read all the posts too hard to resist.

So, my ramblings will hopefully be worthy of a good read, I hope humorous at times and also practical. So, please comment, ask questions and I will endeavour to help as much as I can.
